Worship Method:
The Bakong temple complex of the Roluos Group in Siem Reap in Cambodia is the oldest remaining temple in the area. As the first major temple-mountain of the Khmer Empire, it is also the most important temple of its period. Worshippers of the Bakong complex of temples can enter the complex through a large gateway and view the main temple pyramid of Bakong, which is the largest mountain temple in the region, and the other subsidiary pyramids. The worship method for the Bakong complex primarily consists of offering incense, flowers and prayers to the deity depicted in the primary deity of the temple, Shiva. Offerings are made at the shrines located at the top of the temple pyramid, which is adorned with intricate carvings of several different anthropomorphic gods. Offerings are also made at the lower shrines located around the base of the pyramid. Worshippers typically approach the temple from the east side, beginning at the main entrance and proceeding to the top of the pyramid. To the east of the Bakong pyramid is an area where numerous shrine halls are located, and devotees often gather in front of these shrines to offer their prayers. Offerings may include flowers, incense, colored powders and food items such as fruits and vegetables. Offerings of incense are particularly important; the smoke from the sacrificial fires is believed to cleanse the air around the temple and to help bring positive energy to the worshipper. Once the offering is made, the devotee should recite prayers to the deity, which are usually directed at the image of the deity at the top of the pyramid. Finally, the devotee may exit the temple through the same entrance that they used to enter. This most visited temple in Cambodia
