The EATW was founded in 1959 by Pastor Etienne Tosi in the Ouagadougou region of Burkina Faso. Tosi was an interdenominational pastor from Ghana and was sent to the region to bring Christian faith to the people of the region. The Apostolic Church of Wemtenga began as a group of about 40 followers and has grown to be one of the largest denominations in Burkina Faso. EATW This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Burkina Faso.

The EATW has over 500,000 members today, spread across the country and abroad. There are over 100 branches of the church located in 25 countries, including Africa, Asia, Oceania, North and South America, and Europe. EATW follows the African-American tradition of preaching and worshipping by combining traditional Christian liturgy and music, as well as traditional African music. EATW

The EATW offers religious education and worship services in over 250 local churches throughout Burkina Faso. The church also provides humanitarian aid, medical and educational assistance.
