is a temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located in the country's capital of Brasília. The temple was announced on 10 October 1991 and dedicated on 1 October 2000 by Gordon B. Hinckley. The temple is the second constructed in the country, the first being the São Paulo Brazil Temple which was dedicated in 1978. The ground was broken for the temple a year before its dedication, in October 1999. The temple serves church members in Brasilia, Goias, and a number of other Brazilian states. The temple is operated by the church and is open to the public for limited tours and for performing marriage ceremonies. The temple is the largest in the country and the 16th largest temple in the world. It contains four ordinance rooms, four sealing rooms, and a total floor area of over 19000 square feet. The temple has an unusual design and includes a massive central tower standing 60 meters (197 feet) high, topped by a gold-leafed Moroni statue. 6. The temple serves Mormons from the northern and western regions of Brazil and includes many cultural and language differences from the country’s central and southern regions. 8.
