is a Buddhist temple that was built in the 17th century. The temple is reputed to have been constructed by Lama Ngawang Chogyal, a great yogi of the Drukpa Kagyudpa school and is dedicated to the Mahadeva Dung Gutempa. Kungzang Lhakhang is a vibrant shrine located in Trashiyangtse, Bhutan. It is said to be built by Terton Drukpa Kuenly in the early 18th century, during the reign of Sengge Namgyal, the 4th Desi (Himalayan ruler) of Bhutan. The shrine was built to propagate Buddhism in the region and as per local legend, it is believed to be the birthplace of Sengge Namgyal. It is consecrated to two Buddhist saints, Kunzang Dechen Lingpa and Pema Lingpa. The temple is diligently maintained by the local people and features a tall golden-roofed prayer hall painted in traditional Bhutanese design. It also has several statues of various guardian deities, scriptures and wall carvings. Each year, during the Losar Festival, local people gather at the temple to witness the procession of monks and perform rituals. Kungzang Lhakhang, Trashiyangtse is an ancient monastery located in Bhutan. Worship at the temple consist of traditional Buddhist rituals and prayers. Buddhists are encouraged to make offerings of incense and flowers, along with chanting mantras and performing prostration. Tibetan-style butter lamps are often lit and burning cedar blocks called “sang” are also produced.
