Gomphu Kora is a special religious shrines located in Eastern Bhutan in Trashigang District. The site derives its name from two words - ‘Gom’ a local term meaning ‘meditation’ and ‘Phu’ which means 'cave'. The main feature of this site is a cave, where Guru Padmasambhava is believed to have meditated and attained realization. The worship method for Gomphu Kora is based on the ‘Chu-Shes’ tradition. The main practices associated with this include circumambulation around the main rock or Lha-Khang as a way to symbolically perform prostration on the site. Participants can also pray and recite prayers associated with Guru Padmasambhava. Offerings like incense, fruits and butter lamps are made at the site. People can also go around Kora three times and recite mantras, in order to gain merit for themselves, friends and family members. Participants also try to get a glimpse of the Guru Padmasambhava statue, which is said to reside in the cave. The view of Manyang Chenmo, a waterfall near the shrine is said to bring good fortune.
