The church of Sint-Adrianuskerk dates back to 1140 when Count Godfrey of Louvain funded its construction. It was initially designed in Romanesque style, becoming one of the oldest churches in the area and its spire gained a prominent place in Leuven’s skyline. Over the centuries, the church was further expanded and its original Romanesque architecture was replaced by Gothic styles during the 13th to 15th centuries. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Belgium.
