The Basilica of Our Lady of Tongre is a Roman Catholic basilica located in Tongre-Notre-Dame, a village in the municipality of Mont-de-L’Enclus, Hainaut province, Belgium. The original church dates back to the 4th century, making it the oldest in Belgium. In 1076, the Benedictines of Saint-Rombaut built a Romanesque colossus, and the basilica was completed in the 16th century. The basilica features a Mannerist-style nave and Gothic choir. It is a popular pilgrimage destination, with a shrine featuring an oil painting of the Virgin Mary on the altar. The basilica is known for its many events and services, including morning and evening prayer, meditation, weddings, baptisms, and Sunday masses. The basilica is home to many relics, including the tomb of Bl. Gérard of Tongre, the patron of animals.
