St. Francis Xavier Cathedral In Belarus: History,Facts, & Services

St. Francis Xavier Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Vincennes, Indiana. It is the oldest cathedral in Indiana and is the seat of the Diocese of Evansville. It was built in 1836 and is named after the patron saint of mission, St. Francis Xavier. The cathedral was designed by French architect Pierre Patte in a style reminiscent of the churches of Normandy and of the Romanesque Revival period. The interior contains a variety of stained-glass windows depicting various saints, as well as fifteen Stations of the Cross. It is one of the best churches in Belarus which you must visit.

History:

The first Catholic church in this area was a log cabin built in 1815 and served the parish until the construction of St. Francis Xavier. The cornerstone was laid in 1834 and in 1836, the building was consecrated. Since its completion, St. Francis Xavier has functioned not only as a center of religious activities, but also as a cultural hub of the city. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Belarus.
