Saint Sophia Cathedral is a historic Byzantine Greek Orthodox Christian cathedral located in Kyiv, Ukraine. It is one of the city's most popular tourist attractions and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Saint Sophia Cathedral was built in the 11th century by Grand Prince Yaroslav the Wise. The cathedral was the first church built in the state, and became the main temple of the city's important and influential Metropolitan bishopric. It was expanded and renovated several times, and survived several wars and natural disasters, including the Mongol invasion of 1240. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Belarus.
