It is a former cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church, built in 1780 and one of the oldest surviving churches in the city. History:

Kostol Svyatogo Nikolaya was built in 1780 under the rule of Empress Catherine the Great. The church was originally built as an episcopal cathedral and later underwent restoration work in 1810 by the renowned Russian architect Andrei Voronikhin. The church was used as a temple during the reign of Alexander I and elevated to the status of a cathedral in 1837. Kostol Svyatogo Nikolaya remained in service until 1934, when most of its original frescoes were destroyed. It was later reconstructed during the Soviet era, with new iconography. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Belarus.
