The church was built to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Tsar Alexander I. It is dedicated to his patron saint, Saint Alexander Nevsky. The church was consecrated in the presence of Tsar Ferdinand I of Bulgaria, and was declared a monument of culture in 1945. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Belarus.
