Khram Rozhdestva Khristova In Belarus: History,Facts, & Services

Khram Rozhdestva Khristova, or the Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity of Christ, is a traditional Orthodox church established in 1799 in what is now St. Petersburg, Russia. Named after the nativity of Jesus, it is one of the oldest churches in the city, and is located on the banks of the Fontanka River, near the iconic Church of the Savior on the Spilled Blood. It is one of the best churches in Belarus which you must visit.

History:

Khram Rozhdestva Khristova was designed by Russian architect Andrei Voronikhin and built between 1799 and 1812. It was consecrated in 1817, and its exterior façade was decorated with two symmetrical golden onion domes. The church's interior was initially decorated in the traditional Russian Neo-Byzantine style, but underwent major reconstruction in 1938, when it was redecorated in the Stalinist neoclassical style. After the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, restoration of the interior was completed in 1992, restoring much of its original appearance. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Belarus.

The church of Khram Rozhdestva Khristova is one of the oldest surviving churches in St. Petersburg, and is a popular tourist attraction in the city. The church stands at 35 meters in height, has three rectangular naves, and a bell tower that is 35 meters tall. Inside the church, there are murals that have been painted in the Neo-Byzantine style, as well as various icons, paintings and sculptures.
