History:

Holy Spirit Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in Minsk, Belarus. The church construction began in 1596, with the monastery founded in 16th century by the Jesuit Fathers. The church was set on fire several times, and was reconstructed several times. In 1821, the church was reconstructed in the Classicist style. In 1895, a clock tower was added to the building, and in the early 20th century the nearby secondary school was built. In February 1917, the church was closed by the Soviet authorities, who later destroyed parts of the building in the 1920s. After World War II, the cathedral was returned to the Roman Catholic Church who rebuilt it in 1990s. The monument was reopened in 2000 for religious services and became a popular tourist spot.
