History:
St. John The Baptist Church in Barbados was founded by Father Henri Boitard in 1645, and the foundation stone was laid in 1647. The original structure was a small, wooden chapel, which was replaced by a larger stone church in 1780. The church was damaged by wind and fire over the years, but remains one of the more historic churches on the island. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Barbados.
