Architecture:

The Zianagar Jame Mosque in Satkhira, Bangladesh, is a typical example of a classical Mughal mosque with its rectangular shape, main entrance in the east-facing wall, a central dome, four corner towers, and a minaret at the northwest corner. The central dome is framed by four smaller domes supported by four arches. The entrance to the mosque is a tall arched portico with a triangular pediment adorned with geometrical and floral designs and intricate terracotta tiles. The sides of the portico are flanked with arches that are supported by ornate pillars. Inside, the mosque is divided into two main sections: the central prayer area, or musalla, and the outer section, or hujra. The musalla is a central open courtyard, surrounded by the walls and pavilions that support the structural framework of the mosque. Known as the iwans, these walls were intricately decorated with intricate and colourful terracotta tilework. The north wall of the mosque is particularly noteworthy due to the large mihrab arch that protrudes out from the centre, covered in intricately carved stone and stucco decoration. The mihrab is adorned with Islamic calligraphy, and a niche in its centre contains an inscription in Persian that attests to the date of construction. The hujra of the mosque is a large open area which houses the stairs leading up to the balcony and the mehrab. This is where the congregation of the mosque can gather for prayers and discuss community matters. The balcony above the hujra, known as the mashrabiyya gallery, is used for the sermon during Friday afternoon services. The building is surrounded by its four minarets, each one topped with a cupola or onion-shaped dome. The minarets, along with the main dome of the mosque, help give the building its typical Mughal architecture. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
