The Shah Paran Mosque is located in the city of Sylhet, Bangladesh. It was built on the west side of the town beginning from circa 1679 by Sayyid Maruf-bin-Muhyiddin bin Fakhruddin-al-Hussaini, who was a chief minister to Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The mosque was built in honor of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan’s son, Prince Shah Paran. It is a historical mosque and a popular tourist destination. The Shah Paran Mosque is designed in a unique Indo-Islamic style, blending both local Sylheti styles with classical Mughal and traditional Bengali elements. The mosque has a prominent main entrance which is decorated with Mughal calligraphy. Inside the mosque, there is a central courtyard surrounded by verandahs on three sides, while the main prayer hall is located on the upper level. The walls of the mosque are adorned with intricate carvings and calligraphic panels, while the domes and cupolas are adorned with colourfully glazed tiles. On the roof of the mosque, a four-storeyed minaret is built with an extended balcony which is a characteristic feature of the architecture from this region of Bangladesh.
