Lohagara Jame Mosque is one of the oldest monuments in Narail of Bangladesh. It was built by one of the local rulers of the Mughal Empire during the reign of Sultan Mahmud Khan in 1664 AD. The mosque is a large two storey structure built out of clay and iron bricks and consists of five domes erected above the main prayer hall. The mosque has several mihrabs and a courtyard containing a large pond known as the ‘Lohangan’. The area around the mosque is well known for its recreational facilities. It is visited by both local and foreign tourists who take a moment to appreciate the beauty of this historic building while exploring the surroundings. The Lohagara Jame Mosque in Narail, Bangladesh is a traditional two-storeyed mosque built in the 18th century. The mosque is square in plan, with its four exterior walls lined up by three large pointed arches. The entrance is centrally located and is flanked by two smaller pointed arches. The interior walls are lined with graceful, stucco inscribed floral and geometric motifs. The mosque features a small, central domed chamber flanked by two smaller domes. The entire mosque is covered with a series of wooden beams, interspersed with ornate stucco carvings and inscriptions. There are five mihrabs on the western qibla wall. The roof is made of terracotta tiles. The exterior is crowned by two minarets, the taller carrying two balconies, and the shorter one bearing four. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
