It was originally built in the 16th century by the then Muslim ruler of Bengal, Sultan Bayezid II and expanded later on throughout the centuries. The mosque has many features of typical Mughal architecture, including an octagonal shape, interior stucco decoration, and plaster of paris ornaments of Mughal design. The main prayer hall has an open roof with two domes, while the minarets are constructed in four arched shapes with very ornamental designs. The Chatkhil Jame Mosque, also known as the Chatkhil Jamia Mosque, is a historic mosque located in Noakhali District, Bangladesh. It is believed to have been built in the 15th century by Malik Sultan Maida i.e. the last Sultan of Bengal. The mosque is rectangular in shape and is known for its curved roof, minarets, and pointed window decorations. The mosque is constructed with locally available bricks and decorated with stucco. The interior of the mosque is also decorated with ornate floral and arabesque designs. There is a single, crenellated Iwan (an ornamental entrance) in the northern wall of the mosque. The exterior walls are decorated with a single projecting story and battlements. The interior of the mosque contains five mihrabs (prayer niches) which face towards Mecca.
