Gndevank In Armenia: History,Facts, & Services
Gndevank is an 11th century Armenian monastery located on the roadside in Armenia’s Vayots Dzor province. The monastery was first built between 1030 and 1040 AD and then reconstructed in 1060 and 1064 by the renowned Armenian architect and sculptor Vahram Verzbethi. Gndevank is surrounded by the gorgeous rough mountains of the Vorotan Gorge and is situated at the crossroads of two main highways. The main attraction of Gndevank is its two-story main chapel, which is easily distinguished by its pointed dome and intricate stone carvings. The monastery is also home to two constructed khachkars (cross stones), more than 100 khachkars that have been left behind by visitors, and several other medieval churches. Gndevank is also known for its stunning views of the Vorotan Gorge, as well as being one of the most peaceful places to visit in Armenia.
