He was most active in Argentina during the late 19th century and is renowned for his commitment to the nation’s unabridged independence and for his contribution to the modern state of Argentina. He was the leader of the Revolution of the Park, which saw the overthrow of the Argentine Confederation and the foundation of the Argentine Republic. Monumento a Nicolás Rodríguez Peña was inaugurated on August 12th, 1904, however it wouldn’t be officially unveiled until fifteen years later on August 25th, 1919. It is located in the El Parque de las Infantas (Infants Park), in the Northeastern part of Buenos Aires. The monument is the work of sculptor Ricardo Grellet and consists of a two meter bronze statue of Nicolas Rodriguez Peña sitting cross-legged, flanked by two allegorical figures representing History and Justice to his left, seated on a marble plinth. In front of the statue are two cannons placed between laurel wreaths. The inscription on the plinth reads: A don NICOLAS RODRIGUEZ PENA, el precursor de la Reforma Constitucional (To Don Nicolas Rodriguez Pena, the leader of the Constitutional reform).
