It was sculpted by local artist Diego Bühl in 1941, and the words were chosen from the will of Güemes himself. The sculpture is marked with the date of the independence of Aragón on February 17, 1817, to symbolise the Argentine fight for independence, and the obelisk is adorned with the flags ofArgentina and Salta.
