History:

Scott’s Head is a small fishing village on the south-west tip of Antigua. It was first settled in the 19th century when a group of Caribbean fishermen established a small permanent settlement at the foot of the cliffs. During this time, the village was known locally as ‘Cutter’s Slip’. In the early 20th century, a local builder James Scott established a large house there, and the village soon became known as Scott’s Head. The village grew over the years and it became known as a great place for salt fishing, with local fishermen making the most of the excellent catches they could get from the sea. As the fishing industry grew, Scott’s Head quickly became a bustling centre of activity. In 1963, Scott’s Head was almost completely destroyed by a major hurricane. The village was rebuilt in the years following the disaster, but it was never able to return to the same level of prosperity that it had before the storm. Things gradually started to improve, however, and today the village is the home to much of seen in the famous 365 islands of Antigua & Barbuda.
