History:

Vallnord Ordino Arcalis is a ski resort located in the Principality of Andorra. It is situated in the council of Ordino, at an altitude of 2,250 metres (7,380 ft). The resort opened for winter season in 1992 as part of the Vallnord ski region. The resort is known for its high-level skiing terrain and hosting of the FIS World Cup races, including the Coupe du Monde de Ski Alpin in 2005, and the FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup in 2007. The resort is divided into two sectors, the Arcalis sector, which is the largest, and the Camprins sector, located near the high mountain refuge of Port-aux-Pistes. This sector is one of the few with natural snow. Aside from the ski areas, the resort also features an aquatic centre, a spa and a theatre, amongst other entertainment. Ordino Arcalís also has one of the first Family Parks in Andorra. This is equipped with a full range of services and activities suitable for children between the ages of 5 and 12 years old. The resort boasts 74 ski slopes for all levels, ranging from beginner to expert, in both artificial and natural snow. These include 13 black, 20 red, 34 blue and 7 green runs. The resort also boasts three snowparks and a 9 km (5.6 mi) circuit of marked routes for ski touring and snowshoeing. The resort also has a 500 m² (5,380 ft²) ski school, covering all levels of skiing and snowboarding. The ski school is managed by a team of certified instructors, ensuring a safe and professional learning experience. Vallnord Ordino Arcalis has recently also invested in the creation of a top “Speed Racing” Center, where downhill skiers can practice their speed on the toughest of terrains. The resort also organises an annual race, the Ordino-Arcalis FIS Speed Skiing World Cup. In recent years, the resort has added a new activity, heli-skiing. This involves a helicopter skiing in the highest mountain of Andorra, taking skiers to the highest peaks of Vallnord Ordino Arcalis, reaching as high as 3,000 m (9,843 ft).
