History:
la Vella, the neighbourhood of Serradells is located near the city centre. Serradells is one of the oldest neighbourhoods of Andorra la Vella. It dates back to the Middle Ages, when it was occupied by the castle of Sant Cristòfol, built in 1312. In 1412, Serradells became part of the parish of Santa Coloma, originally part of the valley of Encamp. As the population grew, so did the area, with more houses being constructed in Serradells. A significant development for the area came in 1580 after the inauguration of the church of Sant Cristòfol, located in the neighbourhood. The Serradells has long been a residential area for the wealthiest families in Andorra la Vella. During the 18th and 19th centuries, most of the residents were employed in the high-status occupations of the Principality’s ruling class. As a result, a number of grand homes were built in the neighbourhood, among them the Palau dels Comtes de Galceran. The building has since been converted into the Museum of Religious Art in Andorra, which contains a vast collection of religious relics and art from the area. In the 1940s, Serradells underwent a significant transformation as it was urbanised with the help of the local government. This led to the construction of new buildings, including the National Bank of Andorra and the Lyceum. Today, Serradells is a thriving neighbourhood that is home to many different businesses and restaurants. It is also a popular place to live, with some of the area’s most modern and desirable apartments located in its buildings. Visit one of the famous monuments of Andorra with your friends and family.
