Kanaka Durga Temple is a prominent Hindu temple located in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is devoted to Goddess Kanaka Durga, an incarnation of Goddess Durga. The deity is also known as Bhavani, Sridevi, and Brahmaramba. This temple is very famous in the region and considered to be one of the most important temples in South India. 1. The temple was believed to have been constructed by the King Marthanda Varma in 17th century. 2. The inner sanctum of the temple has a ten-feet tall statue of Goddess Kanaka Durga. 3. As per the historical records, the temple was believed to be renovated by the King Krishnadevaraya in the 16th century. 4. The temple is located on a hillock on the banks of River Krishna. 5. Worship Method:
The Kanaka Durga temple is the largest temple in Vijayawada and is a significant pilgrimage site in Andhra Pradesh. The worship rituals of the temple are followed according to Shaiva Agama and Vaikhanasa Agama. The main deity in the temple complex is Goddess Kanaka Durga. The Goddess is offered daily in a traditional way with several rituals including suvasini pooja, ashtothsara pooja, pujapathra pooja, navagraha pooja, and others. Devotees also offer special prayers to Lord Shiva and other deities in the temple complex. The daily pujas in the temple start with Suprabhata Seva at 4:30 am. Abhishekam is performed during every morning at 6:30 am. Later, the goddess is seen in the decorated avatari in a procession. The palanquin is taken around the entire temple before the deities finally enter the main sanctum. Following the procession, several pujas are performed thereafter. As per the Agama Sastras, the Abhishekam and other poojas are performed from 5:00 pm in the evening. The temple remains open till 9:00 pm and then finally, Papamochana Pooja is conducted around 8:45 pm. The temple's main doors are closed sharp at 9:00 pm after the final Goddess Pooja.
