The church was established in 1837 by German-speaking immigrants and it is part of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. It is the oldest extant Catholic Church in the city of Pittsburgh and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is one of the best churches in Albania which you must visit.

St. Nicholas' Catholic Church was founded in 1837 by German-speaking immigrants, who naturally chose a German saint patron to name their parish. Construction of the church began in 1865, and the finished church was dedicated in 1867. Over the next hundred years, many additions were made to the church, including a new bell tower, a large dome, and stained glass windows imported from Munich, Germany. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Albania.
