History:

St. John's Catholic Church was first founded by Father John Beggs. The first service was held in 1835 by Father Beggs. The first church was a large wooden tavern located in the area of Waukegan and Whitney Roads. The following year, 1836, the church was moved to its current location. In 1840, a new building was raised on the site to replace the old tavern. This building was used until the mid-19th century, after which it was rebuilt to accommodate the growing congregation. The building today is the oldest remaining structure in the area and still bears its original architecture.
