History:

Et’hem Bey Mosque has been located in the center of Tirana since 1789. It was built during the Ottoman Empire when Tirana was part of the Empire. The Et'hem Bey Mosque was built on the wish of Molla Bey, the son of the founder of Tirana, who gave his name to the mosque. The mosque covers an area of 1000 square meters and was designed by Molla Bey himself and built by one of the masters of the period. Et'hem Bey Mosque is considered on of the most interesting monuments of Ottoman architecture in Albania. The characteristics of its construction techniques use traditional Ottoman architectural elements such as ornamental minares, domes, and decorations. It is noted for its large open yard and the attractive dome that gives the mosque its distinct appearance. During the Albanian communist period, the Et'hem Bey Mosque was abandoned and many of its structures were damaged.
