History:

The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Procopius is located in Shkodër, Albania. This church is named after Saint Procopius of Sázava, a contemporary of Saint Adalbert (Vojtěch), Bishop of Prague, and a martyr of the Bohemian Forest, who was publicly martyred in Bohemia in 986. The church in Shkodër was founded in 1928, during the rule of King Zog I of Albania. The first chapel of the church was built by the monks of the Congregation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, on a part of the 6th-century castle of Rozafa, which, at the time, belonged to the princely family of Montenegro. The church was officially consecrated on May 21, 1931, by Archbishop Antonio Santin. The original church was demolished during the communist era and was rebuilt in 1981. In 2005, under the guidance of the Franciscan missionaries from Austria and the Diocese of Shkodër–Pult, the church was completely renovated. In 2004, the church became the seat of the Congregation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Today, Saint Procopius Church holds regular mass services and is a popular tourist attraction, offering a nice view of the city of Shkodër and the lake nearby.
