In 1901, Father Antonio Tosi Heina was appointed as the church's first resident rector. In 1939, the church was greatly expanded with the addition of the nave, choir, sacristy, and bell tower. The bell tower, built in the Italian Baroque style, still stands today and is one of a handful of surviving Baroque-style landmarks in the city. In 1982, the church was granted status as a parish church, and Father Alessandro Zamproni was appointed as its first parish priest.
