In order to participate in the Palio di Siena, one must first be a member of a Contrada, or local district. Once selected as a member, you will be allowed to purchase tickets to the race. Every July and August, the Palio horse race takes place in Siena, Italy. It begins with a colorful procession of the city's 17 Contrada parties. Each race includes 3 laps around the city's track, and the first horse to cross the finish line is declared the winner.
