The Old Rectory is a 2 1/2-story building with a gable roof of shingles and two ridge dormers. The exterior of the building is made of wood with a whitewashed finish. There are two entrances to the building, one in the front and one in the rear. Inside the building there is a central hall with rooms arranged around it in a "U" shaped plan. The original interior fittings and furniture are mostly intact and include, among others, a kitchen with a firebox stove.
The building was used as the rectory until the mid-twentieth century. After that it served at various times as a schoolhouse, a library, and an industrial academy. Today it is a museum which is open to the public. It houses a collection of period artifacts, furniture, and documents as well as the personal possessions of notable figures from Rääkkylä.
The Old Rectory was declared a protected cultural monument in 1978. It was completely restored in 2001 and is now one of the most visited tourist attractions in the region.
