Kerala’s First-ever Responsible Tourism Club is launched by Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas.

Synopsis: Kerala Tourism Minister – P A Mohamed Riyas has launched the first set of  Responsible Tourism Club in Kozhikode. This club is part of the Green Tourism initiative that was launched by the State Government on 7th June this year.

The Kerala government has launched a program called ‘Responsible Tourism Clubs’ that aims to promote tourism in the state while ensuring that its impact on the environment and local communities is minimal. The clubs have been set up in five districts where tourists can learn about the culture, history, and traditions of the region.



A tourist who joins the club will get information about the area’s flora and fauna, cultural heritage, traditional practices, and other aspects of the region. Tourists can also join the clubs through their mobile phones. They can register themselves online and receive updates on events organized by the clubs.

The clubs will also help tourists understand the importance of conserving natural resources and protecting wildlife. They will also provide information on how to avoid littering and waste disposal.

Kadalundi is a vital part of the Beypore Comprehensive Responsible Tourism Development Project that aims to the development of Beypore for international tourism. Hence the Responsible Tourism Club is initially set up in Kozhikode in the collaboration with the state’s Higher Education Department. 

The Green Tourism initiative was executed together by the state government and Tourism Minister to promote tourism. While announcing the tourism Green Tourism it was planned to open around 1000 clubs across the state in three years. The clubs are focussed to educate tourists about flora, fauna, and cultural heritage, and teaching them the importance of conserving natural resources and wildlife. This initiative is also taken for sagacious waste management generated 

In the early phase, the government has decided to set up a minimum of 100 Clubs in 2022 itself. The main objective behind the innovation of these clubs is to create awareness among tourists about nature and wildlife. the objective behind setting up Responsible Tourism Clubs is to make tourism development across the state.

The first club was established in Kochi, where tourists can learn about the local flora and fauna, and how to protect them from poaching. This club will also teach people about the medicinal properties of plants and herbs.




The second club will be located in Thiruvananthapuram, where tourists will learn about the history of the region and its cultural heritage. Visitors will also have the opportunity to participate in yoga classes and meditation sessions.

The third club will be based in Alappuzha, where tourists will learn how to preserve the unique biodiversity of this area. In addition, they will be taught about the traditional fishing methods used in the region.

The fourth club will be located in Kollam, where visitors will learn about the rich marine life and coral reefs of the region. Tourists will also be educated about the importance of preserving these ecosystems.

The fifth club will be based in Thrissur, where tourists will learn the importance of conserving water sources and reducing pollution. Participants will also be able to take part in workshops on recycling and waste management.
