History:

Eglise St Julien was built around the year 1230, though some historians believe that the Romanesque church that stood on the site prior to the Gothic building was in fact a temple to Dionysus. The church was built for the Arlesian chapter of the Knights Hospitaller; it was reconstructed in the early 16th century and made more Baroque in the 17th and 18th centuries. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Mauritius.
