The Curepipe Baptist Church was founded in 1897 by Presbyterian missionaries, the Reverends William and James Gilchrist. Originally, the church served local families and students from the nearby Curepipe Girls' School. In 1913, the church was officialized as "Curepipe Free Church", a branch of the Scottish Free Church. In 1956, the first major building project was completed, and the church was rededicated as the "Curepipe Baptist Church".
