1. Nine Bridges: Zhujiajiao Water Town is known for its quaint and well-preserved stone bridges, with as many as nine examples. The most famous bridge is Fangsheng Bridge, which is said to bring the luck of a good marriage. 2. Middle Street: Perhaps the most popular part of the Water Town is the Middle Street, around 480m long. It also called “Qing Long Fang”, which is the busiest and most ancient street in town. Traditional Chinese-style architecture features the street, and there are numerous stores selling souvenirs and traditional snacks. 3. Memorial Archway: Although the archway was destroyed and reconstructed several times, the current structure is the same one from the Qing Dynasty and was built in 1745. The walls that separated the town from outside during ancient times line up on each side. 4. Ancient Well: Located at the end of one side of the Middle Street, the ancient well is one of the most iconic sceneries in Zhujiajiao Water Town. It is believed to date back to the 17th century. 5. Fishing Village: The water town has a fascinating traditional fishing village, where people have been living for centuries. History:

Zhujiajiao, an ancient water town located about an hour's drive from Shanghai, has a history of over 1,700 years. During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1573-1619), the town was established when a local official, Shi Ding Gong, built six stone bridges and 72 arched bridges. These waterways were part of a major project to connect Shanghai and Suzhou, and Zhujiajiao has since become known for its bridges, alleyways, and canals. Although destroyed by fire in 1684, the town was quickly rebuilt since it lay near the route of the Grand Canal, making it an important stop for travelers. In the 19th century and the early 20th century, the town became a popular destination for tourists, drawn to its pagodas, temples, and traditional gardens. During this time, the town gained the nickname “the Oriental Venice.” During the 20th century, Zhujiajiao experienced a great amount of economic activity, and the town saw a great influx of people. Today, the town is considered a protected village, with a classic character that has been carefully preserved. Uniquely, as of 2020, the town still has an active fishing industry and several of its 40 or so traditional bridges still remain.
