The worship method of Yanqing Temple in China is based upon Confucianism. Visitors can recite the Four Books and Five Classics before offerings are made. A typical worship service begins with the reading of sacred scriptures and then involves bowing and making offerings, such as incense, candles and fruit. Peasants may also offer traditional foods native to the region, such as fruit, fish and vegetables. Offerings are placed on designated shrines. Then, the congregation sings a blessing and prays for health, prosperity and good fortune. Once the worship is complete, a stone tablet is inscribed with the names of all of the participants.
