The Temple of Sobek at Kom Ombo was built for the Egyptian crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Horus by Ptolemy VI in the 2nd century BCE. Located in the city of Kom Ombo in the South of modern-day Egypt, the temple is a double temple, separated into two halves dedicated to these two gods. It is one of the best preserved temples in Egypt thanks to its location on high ground away from the flooding of the Nile. The temple complex consists of a main building, a peristyle court, two hypostyle halls with an inner sanctuary containing ornamental columns, a raised podium, a birth house and a priest's residence. Worship Method:

At the Temple of Sobek at Kom Ombo, a daily ritual of worship was once performed in honour of the crocodile deity who was especially revered in ancient Egypt. The ritual entailed several processes and took place in the inner sanctuary of the temple. The first step of the ritual was an offering of food and incense to Sobek. This was followed by a procession of priests in which they paraded around the sanctuary carrying images of Sobek in his form as the Crocodile god. Then, the chief priest would light a fire in the centre of the sanctuary, and offer up incense and sacrificial animals in honour of Sobek. During the ritual, the chief priest would read prayers that praised Sobek and asked for the god’s favour and protection. Finally, prayers would be said to the gods of the other gods associated with Sobek, such as Horus and Hapy. After the ritual was completed, the priests would leave the sanctuary and the people of the community would observe a time of silence to honour Sobek.
