History:
Taihu Lake is located in Rattan province of Jiangsu in China. Its significance dates back to the Spring and Autumn period (771–476 BCE). In the Daoist tradition, the Wu Mountain and Taihu Lake were regarded as the Inner or Central locations of the Three Pure Ones. In the ancient Chinese literature, the ninth-century poet Xie Tiao praised Taihu's natural beauty and praised its influence on the landscape of the Jiangnan region. During the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), the Gaoyou Lake Project was established to improve the navigability of Taihu Lake. The development of the Grand Canal subsequently allowed the lake to be connected to the capital, resulting in increased trade boats travelling between Shanghai and Suzhou. The region around the lake flourished with improvements in irrigation, cultivation of wet-rice paddies, and orchards. In the 20th century,Taihu Lake witnessed industrialisation of the Jiangnan region. Aquaculture became an important economic activity. In the 21st century, the effects of industrial and agricultural pollution have impacted the water quality of the lake. Nonetheless, the lake still sustains unique flora and fauna, and its surrounding region remains an attractive tourism area. Visit one of the famous monuments of China with your friends and family.
