In 1683, an Irish priest named Fr. Anthony O'Hara established the current form of St. Ignatius Church. The original building was in the form of a cruciform Gothic Revival structure and was built with local limestone. Later in 1730 major renovations were done under the direction of Semple Edward Knox. The statue of St. Ignatius of Antioch, which stands outside the church, is a reminder of the founder. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Ireland.
