History:

The Sochi Discovery World Aquarium is located in Sochi, Russia, and has been in operation since the year 2001. It is part of the Sochi Oceanarium and Aquarium complex that was developed and constructed from 1999 to 2001. The aquarium is the largest venue of its kind in Russia, housing a variety of local and global aquatic life and scientific research departments. Over 5,000 living creatures are represented in more than 120 aquariums. The aquarium complex also houses over 10,000 non-living specimens including minerals, fossils, and artifacts. The head of the Sochi Discovery World Aquarium is Dr. Dmitry Neustroev. Additionally, the aquarium complex is one of the first to be affiliated with the German-based society, Nature and Animal Conservation. Since its founding, the Sochi Discovery World Aquarium has grown tremendously. It added an education and exhibition center in 2007 with facilities for scientific and educational research available to students and visitors of all ages. In 2010, two polar bear cubs were born at the zoo. From 2015 to 2018, renovations and additional improvements were made to the aquarium facilities. Today, the Sochi Discovery World Aquarium is a premier destination for visitors and researchers alike.
