Worship Method:
The Qiongzhu Temple is a Chinese Buddhist temple located in Xiangyang, within the picturesque mountains of Hunan Province. There is a unique form of Buddhist worship practiced at the temple known as ‘three-point worship’. This consists of three distinct points: asking for enlightenment in your life, asking for all living beings to be protected, and finally, asking from the Buddhas for wisdom, morality, and the courage to bring their teachings and guidance into daily life. When visiting the Qiongzhu Temple, visitors are encouraged to perform three essential rituals: a ring-tolling ceremony, prayer selecting, and a worship ritual. The ring-tolling ceremony involves ringing a large bell three times to symbolize the three points of Buddhist worship. During the prayer selecting ritual, visitors are encouraged to select a prayer from the books which detail the various writings of the three points of worship. Finally, the worship ritual is based on the Buddhist tradition of offering respect and homage to the ancient Buddhas. This may involve bowing, chanting mantras, or offering prostrations. Visitors to the Qiongzhu Temple can also join the monks for daily services which typically take place in the temple’s main prayer hall. The services will involve reciting scripture, offerings of incense, and the lighting of candles. At more special occasions, additional ceremonies such as the release of paper boats and the chanting of sutras are part of the program. There is no set program that must be followed, as it all depends on the religious tradition that is being practiced. This most visited temple in China
