The Pyramid of Userkaf is an ancient Egyptian pyramid located at the site of Saqqara, in Lower Egypt. The pyramid is believed to have been constructed around 2,500 BC, during the 5th Dynasty of the Old Kingdom period, by Pharaoh Userkaf. The Pyramid of Userkaf is the largest and oldest among the nine pyramids of Saqqara. It is believed to have been one of the earliest attempts at pyramidical construction, and thus holds great archeological significance. Userkaf's pyramid was built on a limestone platform, located close to the entrance of the Valley of the Kings. This limestone platform measured 150 by 140 m. The pyramid itself has a square base measuring 105 m on each side, with a height of around 58.4 m. It was originally constructed with an external stone casing, but this casing has since eroded away. The entrance to the pyramid is located at the southeastern corner, which leads down into an antechamber and then a short passageway leading into the burial chamber. This burial chamber was first excavated in the 19th century, but since then it has been re-buried to protect the remaining artifacts and preserving the site from further damage. The tomb of Userkaf was also discovered inside the pyramid. Inside the small chamber is a limestone sarcophagus with inscriptions recording his name. The preservation of this tomb is remarkable, considering that it is believed to be over four thousand years old.
