The Pyramid of Khentkaus II is located on the site of the Giza Necropolis near Cairo, Egypt. It was built in the 25th century BC by the Fifth Dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh Khentkaus II. The pyramid is thought to have been originally comprised of six steps, built within a large mudbrick enclosure at the base, and was meant to serve as a grand tomb for the Pharaoh. It is believed to have been the first of its kind in the region and could have also served to help protect the nearby tombs of Khentkaus II’s ancestors. At some point in history, the pyramid suffered extensive damage and was eventually almost entirely demolished. The only parts that remain are the enclosure, which has been partially restored, and a section of the pyramid's east wall, which still stands nearly 20 feet (6 meters) tall.
