History:
The Mount Heng (恒山) of Hunan is an important historical landmark and spiritual pilgrimage site located on the provincial border of Hunan and Jiangxi in central China. The mountain is part of a mountain range and stands at an elevation of 2,053 meters above sea level. Mount Heng is known as one of the “Five Sacred Mountains of Taoism”, and has been associated with various spiritual and religious traditions since ancient times. Records of emperors, Buddhist followers, and Taoist practitioners pilgrimage to the summit date at least as far back as the Eastern Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD).
