is one of the oldest and most important mosques and shrines of Cairo, founded by the renowned 13th century dervish Shaikh Ibrahim al-Desouki. The mosque is located in the Muslim quarter of Cairo which is one of the oldest mosques in the city. It is known as one of the major holy Mosques in Egypt for performing prayers, and was formerly a university for Islamic jurisprudence and Islamic sciences. The mosque was built during the reign of Mamluk Sultan Al-Nasir Muhammed Ibn Qala’un in the year 857 Hijri (1357 Ad) and is located inside Bab el-Nasr. The structure is a combination of Mamluk, Ottoman and Egyptian Revival architecture, and is constructed from stone and colored marble.
