It was founded in 1937 by American Presbyterian missionaries Harry and Harriette Kreider. Mitaka Evangelical Church was founded in 1937 by the Kreider family, American missionaries from the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). The Krieders established their mission to serve a small community in Mitaka, connected to the presence of American Occupation Forces in the city. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Japan.
