The Mastaba of Ptahhotep is an ancient Egyptian tomb located in Saqqara, Egypt. It dates back to the 5th Dynasty of the Old Kingdom, around 2400 BC. It is believed to be the burial place of the vizier Ptahhotep, who served under King Isesi. The structure is believed to be the oldest large stone building in Egypt and an important example of the early development of funerary architecture. The entrance to the tomb is decorated with reliefs that show Ptahhotep’s life and career, as well as multiple scenes depicting daily life in Old Kingdom Egypt. Inside the main chamber of the tomb is a collection of false doors and stela featuring writings by Ptahhotep, including advice about how to live one's life in a moral and wise manner. There are also numerous intricate hieroglyphic texts carved into the walls, including a spell from the Egyptian Book of the Dead. The tombs of Ptahhotep’s sons, Ptahhotep the Younger and Kaem-Tjui, are located nearby.
