History:
Huaca Pucllana is a large adobe and clay pyramid located in the Miraflores district of Lima, Peru. This archaeological site dates back to the pre-Inca Lima culture of the fourth century. Located on a hill, the pyramid stands 24 metres high, covering an area of over 5,000 square meters and is thought to have been used for religious and ceremonial purposes. The pyramid is composed of four staggered platforms, the highest of which is surrounded by seven associated platforms. The site is believed to have been first built and used by the Lima culture between 200 and 700 AD. The design of the pyramid and the site suggests that it was the home of a powerful lord or priest, ruling over the surrounding area. Inside the pyramid, archaeologists have discovered the remains of human sacrifices and many artifacts from the ancient Lima people, such as ceramics, pottery, stone tools, and textiles. Huaca Pucllana is of particular importance for its archaeological significance, as it is one of the earliest known literary accounts of ancient Peru. In 1572, Spanish conqueror and historian Pedro Cieza de León wrote a passage about Huaca Pucllana which was the first written history of the site. Since the mid-1980s, Huaca Pucllana has been an open-air museum. Visitors can see the ruins and learn more about the history of the Lima culture. The area around the ruins is used for public events and festivals, including musical performances, theater, and art shows. Visit one of the famous monuments of Peru with your friends and family.
