History:

Kafin Madaki is an ancient settlement located in the Marmara District of Bauchi State in Nigeria. The settlement has a long and distinguished history with its origins dating back to the Middle Ages. The ancient town lies approximately 8 kilometres north of Bauchi and is the headquarters of the Marmara local government area. The town is known for its traditional pottery and has a strong cultural connection with the pottery tradition of Dass and Tafawa Balewa. The settlement was once the seat of a powerful kingdom known as Gidan Madaki, which was established in the 13th century. Gidan Madaki was a major political power during this period and controlled much of the land that now constitutes the Marmara District. The powerful kingdom was defeated during the 19th century and went into decline, though its cultural traditions remain to this day. The primary language spoken in Kafin Madaki is Fulfulde, but the population includes speakers of Hausa, Kanuri, Nupe and other ethnic groups in the area.
